The widow jumps to her husband's grave to protest after his alleged killer is released from police custody
A widow protested at her husband's grave on Thursday at the Wanyororo cemetery in Bahati, Nakuru county, Kenya, after a suspect linked to his murder was allegedly released from police custody.
The late Edward Mwangi, 33, was found murdered on a farm in the Wanyororo B area of Bahati after being stabbed eight times on December 3, 2018.
It is said that the main suspect turned himself in to the police and also presented a knife that he used to kill the deceased. Mr. Mwangi's family claims that the suspect was released on the same day.
On Thursday, his widow Mary Wangari led a group of friends and family members to demand the arrest of the suspect before the burial could proceed. They also promised that there will be no burial until the suspect is tried in court.
"We will not allow the funeral to be held until we receive an explanation as to why the main suspect was released," the widow said.
A rival group dug a grave in the Wanyororo cemetery on Thursday and wanted to proceed with the burial.
It is said that the deceased, father of two children and soccer player in a local club, got involved in a fight with the suspect who claimed that he was dating his wife before stabbing him to death.
