9-year-old black girl kills herself after classmates intimidated her for being friends with a white boy

A 9-year-old girl committed suicide after her classmates intimidated her for being a friend of a white child, her family said.

McKenzie Nicole Adams suffered a year of mistreatment by students at US Jones Elementary School in Alabama before she finally took her own life.

She hanged herself at her home in Linden on December 3, according to reports. Her body was found by her grandmother.

McKenzie's family said she had been teased about her friendship with a white boy by bullies at her school, who told her to commit suicide.

Her aunt Eddwina Harris told the Tuscaloosa News:

She was being bullied the entire school year, with words such as 'Kill yourself…you think you’re white because you ride with that white boy…you ugly.. black (expletive)…just die'.

McKenzie had moved from another school where she had also been abused by other students.
